Over the past eight years, Montreal’s Papier—an event that focuses on works on paper—has built a reputation as a tightly edited fair. Among the highlights in this year’s edition, which runs April 22 to 24, are a roster of 38 galleries and 400 artists, as well as a free series of educational programs.
For Papier16, the fair moves to Montreal’s historic Old Port area to take up residence in Hangar 16, a century-old building that once greeted travellers arriving by boat to the city. Offering a remarkable amount of space and light, it’s a short walk from Champs-de-Mars metro station.
Join Canadian Art at Papier16 for a talk by managing editor Rosie Prata on Saturday, April 23, at noon.
During the talk, Prata will ask, How can private-sector businesses and public-funding agencies stimulate, sustain and grow the province’s contemporary art scene? Panellists include Megan Bradley, codirector of Parisian Laundry; Marie-Claude Lortie, columnist for La Presse; and Anthony Burnham, artist represented by Galerie René Blouin.
