Vishakha N. Desai discusses the work of Ravinder Reddy during her lecture “Asian Art in Global Context: The Role of Contemporary Art in Rapidly Changing Economies and Cultures”
On November 14, 2012, Vishakha N. Desai, senior advisor for global policy programs, Guggenheim Foundation, gave the lecture “Asian Art in Global Context: The Role of Contemporary Art in Rapidly Changing Economies and Cultures” at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The lecture was the first in the new Asia Contemporary Speaker Series, a joint project of the Canadian Art Foundation and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s National Conversation on Asia. The series is designed to explore the rapid rise of contemporary Asian art as part of a broader global shift in economic and political weight toward Asia. It is sponsored by BMO Financial Group.
Prior to taking her post at the Guggenheim Foundation, Desai was president and CEO of the Asia Society. She has an international reputation for introducing contemporary Asian art to the United States through critically acclaimed exhibitions and scholarly catalogues. Before joining Asia Society in 1990, Desai was a curator at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. She has also taught at the University of Massachusetts, Boston University, Columbia University and Williams College, and has published and edited several books and articles on traditional and contemporary art.
