“I’ve met so many Canadians this year!”
This was overheard at the Venice Biennale’s big preview week by National Gallery of Canada director Marc Mayer.
And the statement makes sense—dozens of Canadians from all over the country turned out for the Biennale’s VIP and press days on May 28, 29, 30 and 31.
Among the Canadians cruising the canals last week were artists Daniel Barrow, Geoffrey Farmer, Valérie Blass, Evan Penny, Jon Rafman, Micah Lexier, Sky Glabush and Tony Romano; curators Daina Augaitis, Kitty Scott, Elizabeth Smith, Sarah Fillmore and Michelle Jacques; museum directors Matthew Teitelbaum and David Liss; and dealer Jessica Bradley, along with her assistant director Leah Turner.
On May 30, we launched the summer issue of Canadian Art in Venice’s Giardini with many of them in attendance.
To see some of the Canadian faces who joined us at our issue launch—held in the garden of the Canada Pavilion, and photographed by Dyan Marie—please click on the Photos icon above.
The issue, featuring a cover story on Canada Pavilion representative Shary Boyle, is now on its way to subscribers and will hit newsstands across the nation on June 15.
Our Summer issue launch in Venice was generously supported by AIMIA, Mary-Dailey Pattee and Paul Desmarais III.
