On September 17, 2015, the Canadian Art Foundation welcomed more than 650 guests to the Carlu for the 20th anniversary of our annual Gala.
What started as a humble dinner party at Olga Korper Gallery has grown into the most highly anticipated art party of the fall season, and the country’s top auction of contemporary art. This year’s auction featured 53 pieces from Canadian talent, including Edward Burtynsky and Karen Kraven.
The Gala included an installation bar, “The Colour Barr,” by Toronto-based artist Barr Gilmore, and a memorable performance from DJ Cam Lee, who commanded the room from an elevated stage dressed in drag with his entourage in tow. We also specially commissioned artist Jade Rude to design centrepieces and tableware décor—10-inch table sculptures that greeted dinner guests with “Hello, Hello.” These were auctioned at each table.
The evening kicked off with the screening of a short video celebrating 20 years of the Gala. Featuring key people and organizations that support us, the video was developed by Toronto’s Projector (produced by Kyriakos Alexopoulos and edited by Ryan Walker).
Funds raised from the annual Gala are the largest significant single source of funding for publishing Canadian Art and producing our year-round programming and mentorship programs.
