Artist Shary Boyle
On June 5, 2008, Toronto artist Shary Boyle spoke in Vancouver as part of the Canadian Art Foundation International Lecture Series, co-presented with the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver.
Now art lovers across the country can watch as Boyle discusses her multidimensional artistic practice from painting to live drawing to performance with overhead projectors. She also describes her early collaborations with film and video artist Kika Thorne and musicians Peaches and Feist. Boyle also speaks about her ongoing interest in transparency, light and shadow.
Shary Boyle graduated from the Ontario College of Art (now the Ontario College of Art and Design) in 1994. The only artist in a large, suburban, working-class family, Boyle’s early memories and experiences of female otherness are reflected in her choice of imagery.
Boyle has performed and exhibited her work across Canada and internationally, most recently at the Power Plant, Toronto, and at Space Gallery, London, UK, where she exhibited a dramatic projected light installation titled The Clearances. A monograph on her work, Otherworld Uprising, was published on the occasion of her 2008 solo exhibition at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge.
