Calgary’s fourth Reel Artists Film Festival offers free admission to all screenings

Films on Shary Boyle, Elmgreen & Dragset, Michel de Broin and Jon Gnarr set to open the festival on March 22

The Reel Artists Film Festival opens its fourth edition in Calgary on March 22 with screenings of documentaries on Shary Boyle, Elmgreen & Dragset, Michel de Broin and Jon Gnarr.

The festival continues through to March 25 with in-depth features on Gerhard Richter, Oliviero Toscani, Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge, and Charles and Ray Eames. Insightful shorts on Rachel Whiteread, Christine Sun Kim, Mark Dion, Gabriel Orozco, Chris Ofili and Tacita Dean also highlight the program.

Co-presented by the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art + Design and the Canadian Art Foundation, RAFF Calgary is pleased to offer free admission to all screenings.

As Canadian Art Foundation executive director Ann Webb and Illingworth Kerr Gallery assistant curator Tatiana Mellema note in their online welcome, “This year’s program includes the very best documentaries on art, design and culture, presenting artistic practices that challenge conventional boundaries and engage in acts of resistance.”

9 p.m. Michel de Broin: Matters of Circulation and Gnarr

SATURDAY, MARCH 24
1 p.m. Tacita Dean and Thomas Ruff
2:30 p.m. Chris Ofili: Exploding the Crystal and Gerhard Richter Painting
5 p.m. Gabriel Orozco and Portrait of Resistance: The Art and Activism of Carole Condé & Karl Beveridge
7 p.m. Mark Dion and Oliviero Toscani: The Rage of Images

SUNDAY, MARCH 25
1 p.m. Christine Sun Kim, A Selby Film and Massimo Vitali
2:30 p.m. Rachel Whiteread and Eames: The Architect and the Painter
