In this video, taped on May 26, 2010, as part of Canadian Art’s Anne Lind International Program, Peter Eleey, curator at PS1 Contemporary Art Center, speaks about his exhibition “The Talent Show,” organized when he was curator at the Walker Art Center. Eleey outlines the curatorial concept behind his exhibition, using works by Gerhard Richter, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg as starting points to discuss his fascination with ideas of blankness and disappearance. He also highlights works by Piero Manzoni, Andy Warhol, Chris Burden, Gillian Wearing, Adrian Piper and many other artists, all of whose work sheds light on the idea that contemporary life means being constantly on view, and that areas of blankness are now both a stage and a place for suspicion. The Canadian Art Foundation’s Anne Lind International Program provides an opportunity for dialogue among noted international artists, curators and critics and their Canadian counterparts. This program honours the life of Anne Lind, a former member of the Canadian Art Foundation board of directors and a devoted supporter of the visual arts.
