Kristine Moran: Where Cities Break, and Paint Survives

Kristine Moran Flash Flood 2008

In the few short years since her graduation from the Ontario College of Art and Design, Kristine Moran has built a busy career with exhibitions of her award-winning paintings in Toronto, New York and elsewhere. Drawing on urban landscape, film and mythology she creates a contending space of mixed environmental narratives and painterly abandon. In her new show, entitled “Unraveling Under Conditions of Uncertainty,” we see empty public space broken by careening abstract passages of paint. The pictures communicate eloquent states of entropy and disarray where cities break and paint survives. (1615 10 Ave SW, Calgary AB)
