Prada Foundation artistic director Germano Celant discusses “When Attitudes Become Form” at the Reel Artists Film Festival in Toronto.
Sometimes the most exciting new exhibitions come from deep in the past.
This truth was evident during the 2013 Venice Biennale, when the Prada Foundation’s exhibition “When Attitudes Become Form: Bern 1969/Venice 2013” became one of the most in-demand and most-discussed exhibitions in the city.
Opening-week lineups were hours long for the Prada Foundation show, which crossed lines of space, time and concept by restaging an iconic and highly influential exhibition originally staged in 1969 by the late Harald Szeeman.
Germano Celant, artistic director of the Prada Foundation, was at the helm of the Venice exhibition, working in collaboration with Rem Koolhaas and Thomas Demand.
In a rare Canadian lecture on February 22, 2014, Celant discussed his curatorial approach to the show in a lecture at Canadian Art’s Reel Artists Film Festival in Toronto.
Celant’s lecture in Toronto followed the screening of a documentary about the original 1969 version of “When Attitudes Become Form,” as well as a brief documentary about the 2013 Venice presentation.
