Auction Pick: Suzy Lake Celebrates the Strength of Women

Collector and art consultant Danna Heitner tells us why she is charmed by Suzy Lake's vintage print Maquette: Re-Reading Recovery #7.

The Canadian Art Foundation auction takes place during our 21st annual gala on September 22. In anticipation, we asked members of our art-advisory committee to select their favourite works on the auction block. We’ll be publishing their selections periodically leading up to our auction preview on September 15, when all of the works will be on view at Waddingtons.

Top pick for collector and art consultant Danna Heitner: Suzy Lake’s Maquette: Re-Reading Recovery #7 (1997)

“Suzy Lake, an artist I have admired for a long time, has had a stellar year! She had a major solo exhibition at the AGO which was comprehensive and inspiring. She also won the Scotiabank Photography Award, which means another exhibition to follow next May. This image is typical Suzy: celebrating the strength of women. I find this image to be both beautiful and haunting. A well-balanced image that is quiet and intense. Simply lovely.”
