Today, Toronto artist John Greyson and London doctor Tarek Loubani released their first public message since being freed from a 50-day detainment in an Egyptian jail.

The message has been delivered in the form of a brief, one-minute YouTube post, which is viewable by clicking on the Video icon above.

“We’re very touched and overwhelmed,” Greyson says in the video. “We’re just getting a sense now of the incredible support that was there, that came together from every corner—Canadians, people around the world, people here in Egypt—to make this day possible.”

“Thank you so much for all of your support, thank you so much for all of your help, thank you so much for everything you have done for us,” Loubani says.

Greyson and Loubani were released on October 6, but were subsequently prevented from boarding a flight to Germany, the CBC reported.

Greyson notes that “the ordeal’s not over… and our thoughts are still with the prisoners and their families who are still inside.”
