Jeff Dupre Wins Goethe Reel Audience Director Award

The Goethe Reel Audience Director Award at Canadian Art’s Reel Artists Film Festival has gone to Jeff Dupre for Kehinde Wiley: An Economy of Grace. This film had its world premiere at RAFF on February 19, 2014.

The Canadian Art Foundation and the Goethe-Institut have partnered on the inaugural award, a “people’s choice” prize initiated and funded by the Goethe-Institut.

The prize carries a $3,000 cash award and will be presented to Dupre at a ceremony in Toronto this spring. The award and cash prize are intended to foster excellence in international filmmaking, generating a further interest in the arts and documentaries on visual art and artists.

American filmmaker Jeff Dupre has been producing and directing documentary films for nearly 20 years. Dupre also produced and co-directed the Peabody- and Emmy Award-winning artist documentary Marina Abramovic The Artist is Present, which had its Canadian premiere at RAFF 2012. He has also been involved with the much-lauded documentary series CIRCUS and CARRIER, among others.

The Reel Artists Film Festival, now in its 11th year, was established by the Canadian Art Foundation to bring documentaries about art and artists to the Canadian public. As North America’s only festival devoted exclusively to documentary films about visual art and artists, RAFF showcases international feature-length and short documentaries that address challenges and questions raised by artists.

The Goethe-Institut, the global German cultural institute, shares this interest in international artistic dialogue and exchange across the genres, evident in its programming focus on film and visual and media arts.
