This week, the finalists were announced for the 2013 Canadian Online Publishing Awards, a set of peer-juried prizes for online publishing excellence in Canada.

Canadian Art is one of five finalists in the Best News Coverage category in the Red division (consumer, custom, religious and public association magazine websites).

The Best News Coverage prize will be awarded to the online publication deemed to best serve its audience through timely, original news reporting.

In the past year, Canadian Art has covered news stories related to major staff departures at one of Canada’s most significant contemporary art museumswhat artists and arts orgs need to know about the 2013 federal budget, and one auction house’s decision to pay artist royalties, among other topics. Our latest updates are always available at canadianart.ca/news.

The other finalists in this category are Maclean’s, Fashion Magazine, Red Nation and Torontoist.

The winner will be announced November 13 at the Hoxton in Toronto.

In 2012, Canadian Art won two Online Publishing Awards—one for Best E-Newsletter (Red division) and one for Best Online-Only Article or Series of Articles (Red division). The former award recognized Canadian Art Weekly, our free dispatch released every Thursday, while the latter recognized Governor General’s Award–winning critic Nancy Tousley’s online reports on the Alberta art scene.
