Last week, the finalists for the fourth annual Canadian Online Publishing Awards were announced. Canadian Art received five nominations, giving the publication the second-highest number of nominations in the awards’ consumer-magazine division.

Three nominations were in the Best Online-Only Article or Series of Articles category: one for contributing editor Nancy Tousley’s feature stories, which provide in-depth coverage of art developments in Western Canada; one for bestselling author Sarah Thornton’s columns, which address key questions in art including the role of the artist; and one for managing online editor Leah Sandals’s Q&As with Canadian art-world figures.

For the fourth year running, Canadian Art Weekly was nominated in the Best E-Newsletter category.

Also nominated was Canadian Art’s video on careers in graphic design, formerly hosted on its standalone site Canadianartschool.ca and now hosted on the Learn section of its refreshed website. The video was nominated in the Best Video or Multimedia Feature category.

The COPAs honour excellence in digital journalism and design from magazines, newspapers, broadcasters and online-only publishers.

Winners will be announced October 22 at the Hoxton in Toronto.
