On Friday, Terry Graff became director and CEO of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton.
Graff had been deputy director at the gallery since 2008 and had worked there in other capacities as well, including curator, chief curator and chief operating officer.
A release indicated that the gallery expects Graff to contribute to increasing public access and engagement with its collection and enabling a physical expansion of the facility. The Beaverbrook is the official art gallery of New Brunswick.
“As steward of the greatest and most valuable public art collection in the Atlantic region, the gallery has a strong sense of mission,” Graff said in a release, noting it “is a key lynchpin in the cultural and economic revitalization of New Brunswick.”
Most recently, Graff curated “Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery,” a travelling exhibition designed to enhance the gallery’s international reputation. The exhibition opened February 1 at the Society of Four Arts in Palm Beach, Florida. According to the Globe and Mail, the exhibition is also due to travel to the National Gallery of Canada, the Mobile Museum of Art, the Rooms, the Glenbow Museum and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, among other venues.
According to the CBC, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery is still in a dispute with the Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation about ownership of 78 artworks.
Bernard Riordon, who stepped down as director and CEO this month after 10 years in that capacity, has been named director emeritus and will also assist the gallery with its capital campaign.
