New Artexte director Sarah Watson New Artexte director Sarah Watson

Sarah Watson has been appointed director of Artexte in Montreal, replacing Sylvie Gilbert, who accepted a position with the Canada Council in January. She is due to begin April 8.

Until recently, the arts educator and curator was the head of cultural programming and the artist-in-residence program at the McCord Museum in Montreal. She previously directed the learning and public programs at the DHC/ART Foundation, and co-ordinated several projects for the National Film Board of Canada.

As a curator, she is preparing “Landings,” which will feature the work of Canadian artist Dustin Wilson at SBC-Gallery of Contemporary Art (2013). Her latest projects include “Families,” a solo exhibition by Marie-Claude Bouthillier presented at the McCord Museum until April 2013; “Transmission Trio A,” a program based on a work by Yvonne Rainer for the Viva! Art Action festival (Oboro, 2011); and “Living Time,” a pedagogical project and exhibition about the performance works of Tehching Hsieh and Guido van der Werve at DHC/ART (2009).

Watson is presently a doctoral candidate in art history at Concordia University researching the relations between performance art and visual and textual documentation.
