This morning, a large, rarely seen painting by Salvador Dali was unveiled at Place des Arts in Montreal.
Measuring 8 metres by 15 metres, the piece was created in New York in the 1940s for a Metropolitan Opera ballet based on the tale of Tristan and Isolde. According to CBC Radio-Canada, the work disappeared from public view following the close of that production in 1949. A related release stated it was restored in Switzerland in 2009.
Recently, an anonymous European collector offered the work to Daniele Finzi Pasca, a Swiss director and choreographer who has worked on productions for Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Éloize, as well as the closing ceremonies of the Turin Olympics.
The painting will be an important part of Finzi Pasca’s next production, La Vérità, which opens at Place des Arts in January 2013.
The public will have access to this Dali work during tours on November 7 at 12 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Passes for these tours can currently be obtained at the Place des Arts box office. Three thousand passes are available in total.
