Jaime Angelopoulos’s Toronto studio is packed with her vibrantly coloured and textured sculptures, while her drawings line the walls.

In this studio-visit video by Karly McCloskey, Angelopoulos speaks with managing editor Bryne McLaughlin about the labour-intensive process behind her works—and her various sources of inspiration, which include cartoons from her childhood.

Born in Halifax in 1982, Angelopoulos received her BFA from NSCAD University and her MFA from York University. Her work has been exhibited in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago and Finland.

This winter, Angelopoulos’s art can be seen in the following exhibitions: “Contemporary Textile Collection” from January 15 to February 28 at Cambridge Galleries; “Material Girls” at Doris McCarthy Gallery from February 3 to April 9; “Sugar Talk” at LVL3 Gallery from February 13 to March 27. She also has a solo exhibition upcoming at Parisian Laundry in Montreal and a public sculpture planned for CAFKA Biennial this spring.
