RBC Canadian Painting Competition Exhibition in Montreal

The RBC Canadian Painting Competition finalists’ paintings will be on view at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts between September 9 and October 8. Visit the museum to view all of the works that were chosen as finalists for the 16th annual RBC Canadian Painting Competition.

The MMFA will also host this year’s gala winner announcement on the evening of October 1—stay tuned to canadianart.ca and Canadian Art‘s Twitter feed (@canartca) to get that news as it breaks.

The Canadian Art Foundation is proud to partner with RBC on the Canadian Painting Competition. This important annual competition supports and nurtures Canadian Artists early in their careers. Each year the works by the fifteen emerging visual artists—five from each of Western Canada, Eastern Canada and Central Canada—who were chosen as the finalists RBC Canadian Painting Competition are on view in a different venue in Canada. After the 8th of October, this year’s paintings will travel to Toronto where they will be on exhibit at Art Toronto from October 23 to 27.

Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, produced with expertise of the Canadian Art Foundation, is a tribute to Canada’s artistic talent. Finalists are selected from regions across the country, and the artists’ entries represent a significant aspect of Canada’s cultural vibrancy. The goal of the competition is to support and nurture Canadian artists in their early careers by providing them a forum to display their talent to the country.

This year, the competition will award a total of $55,000 in prize money. The winner will receive a cash prize of $25,000, while two honourable mentions will each receive $15,000. Works by both the winners and runners-up will be added to RBC’s collection.

The finalists from Western Canada are: Ashleigh Bartlett of Calgary; Ufuk Gueray of Winnipeg, Tiziana La Melia of Vancouver; Laura Piasta of Vancouver; and Robert Taite of Winnipeg.
