PROGRAM: Canadian Art Foundation Internship Program
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: July to December 2013
APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 31, 2013
INTERVIEWS: Week of June 10, 2013
START DATE: Week of July 8, 2013
The Canadian Art Foundation Internship Program provides six months of mentorship and practical experience in arts administration to upper-level undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals. As a CAF intern, you’ll be trained by members of the CAF team on various long- and short-term projects, including public programming, event planning, and communications and marketing. You’ll gain a thorough knowledge of the entire organization—our goals and working methods, as well as all of the details implicit in making arts programs run successfully. You will assist in research, coordinate event details, contribute to program brochures and marketing devices, liaise with program participants, maintain daily correspondence, update databases and spreadsheets, aid CAF staff and volunteers with off-site set-up for events and programs, help to conceive of new ways for audiences to engage in CAF programs, and collaborate with CAF staff on future program development.
Each intern will experience the implementation and development of major CAF programs and events. The Summer/Fall 2013 internship begins with the implementation of Gallery Hop Toronto (gala and tours and talks), planning for the Paris-Toronto symposium, and the presentation of School Hop. For details on these programs, please visit: canadianart.ca/foundation/programs.
Requirements: The ideal intern has the ability to multitask, has a high attention to detail, is organized, and is able to successfully execute both administrative and research-oriented projects. The intern should be motivated, self-directed, and able to collaborate. In addition, solid writing, research, and computer skills are preferred. This program requires an individual who enjoys interacting with the public and with a range of staff and program participants and who approaches fast-paced and dynamic organizations with aplomb and grace. Availability during event times outside of regular office hours is a plus. We ask that interns commit 2 full days (or 14 hours) a week. CAF interns receive a $2,000 honorarium.
Selection for Canadian Art Foundation’s internship program is made on the basis of the applicant’s interest and motivation in interning with CAF, demonstrated ability to contribute fresh ideas, and commitment. Interest and experience in nonprofits, contemporary art, and the arts more broadly are a plus.
To apply: Please send a resume, letter of interest, and contact information for two references as a single PDF to Christine Shaw, Program and Outreach Manager, at cshaw@canadianart.ca. Please use the subject line “CAF Intern.”
