On February 23, 2013, at the Reel Artists Film Festival in Toronto, Mexican artist Mario Garcia Torres spoke with Toronto artist, curator and writer Luis Jacob following the Canadian premiere of Torres’s film Tea.

Commissioned by and exhibited at Documenta 13, Tea is a poetic documentation of Torres’s journey to the legendary One Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan, which was run by Italian artist Alighiero Boetti in the 1970s. During Torres’s journey, he examines the relationship between himself and Boetti, seeing their roles as switching between guest and host as he arrives at the hotel long after Boetti has left.

Torres’s work has been shown internationally, including at Tate Modern in London, Jeu de Paume in Paris and Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico. His most recent group exhibitions were the 52nd Venice Biennale and Documenta 13.
