The Banff Centre Creative Residencies
With access to a wide range of facilities and faculty, professional artists in visual and digital arts disciplines, including curatorial and critical studies, have the opportunity to explore, expand and develop their practice through interaction, creation, and research.
Creative Residencies are unique programs in which to explore, expand, and develop your artistic practice. Artistic and intellectual growth are facilitated through interaction with a dedicated peer group, lectures, mentorship and feedback, and access to the tools, facilities, and support needed to nurture the creative process. Residencies offer the luxury of time and space for artists to create new work, research innovative ideas, and experiment with different techniques and modes of production. Creative Residencies attract artists, curators, and other arts professionals who are engaged with exploring innovative art and ideas.
We also offer Practicum programs in visual arts studio, curatorial practice, arts administration and research, and gallery installation. These programs are intense experiential learning opportunities that marry practical training in the arts with hands-on, real world experiences through assisting staff in the delivery of Visual + Digital Arts and Walter Phillips Gallery programs.
Campus and Community Art Resources
Residencies provide opportunities for professional and artistic development through access to facilities to create new work, technical expertise, mentorship, studio visits, and opportunities to engage with artists-in-residence, visiting artists, faculty, curators, and speaking engagements at The Banff Centre. Residency experience is also enriched by taking advantage of the activities and support provided by Community Services team.
