This week, the Art Gallery of Mississauga issued a release remembering executive director and curator Robert Freeman, who passed away from complications due to lung cancer on December 22.

Freeman joined the AGM as curator in 2001 and became executive director and curator in 2007. His curatorial projects included 2009’s “Shaman’s Dreams: Abraham Anghik Ruben” and “One Step at a Time: Libby Hague,” as well as 2008’s “Passages: Julie Andreyev.”

As its release, the AGM stated that Freeman’s “vision and patient leadership with the staff and board has inspired many – and he will be greatly missed. Robert will be remembered as a vital contributor to the progress of art and culture in the City of Mississauga as a true collaborator and confidant of many.”

In lieu of cards and flowers, Freeman’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Art Gallery of Mississauga.

An informal remembrance for Freeman will be held at the Art Gallery of Mississauga on January 12, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
