Today RBC, with the support of the Canadian Art Foundation, announced a plan to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition by boosting the prize’s total monies to $115,000. This move, the competition says, makes it the largest prize of its kind in Canada.

As in recent years, the competition’s national winner will receive $25,000, while two honourable mentions will receive $15,000 each. What’s new is that this year the remaining 12 finalists will be awarded $5,000 each.

The call for submissions to the 2013 prize is now open. Applications must be received by May 1. Winners will be announced in Ottawa at the National Gallery of Canada on October 2.

Details and rules of the competition may be found at rbc.com/paintingcompetition.

Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition recognizes and supports Canada’s emerging artists. Along with past winners, the winning paintings of 2013 will become part of RBC’s Canadian art collection comprised of more than 4,000 works of art collected over the past hundred years.
