Jon Tupper, Director of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, announced today that
Michelle Jacques—currently acting curator of Canadian art at the Art Gallery of Ontario—has been named chief curator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

During her tenure at the AGO, Jacques has held various positions. Notably, in the local context, she has led curation of the AGO’s Toronto Now series focusing on regional artists. Just a couple of months prior to this announcement, Jacques had also been reported to be working towards curating a survey of Toronto art at the AGO.

From 2002 to 2004, Jacques was director of programming at the Centre for Art Tapes in Halifax. She holds a B.A. (Honours) in art history and psychology from Queens University and an M.A. in art history from York University.

“Michelle’s broad range of experience as a curator, from historical to contemporary, will
make her an ideal addition to the curatorial team at the AGGV,” said Tupper in a release.

Jacques will assume her new position on October 22, 2012.
