The board of the Canadian Art Foundation is pleased to announce that David Balzer and Debra Rother are now co-publishers of the nation’s most widely read art magazine.

Balzer is editor-in-chief of Canadian Art, while Rother was formerly VP, business development, with the organization.

“Both David and Debra bring extensive experience in art and publishing to the table,” said Desmond Lee, co-chair of the board of directors at the Canadian Art Foundation. “We are confident that together they will be able to guide the growth of Canadian Art’s 32-year legacy.”

David Balzer is the author of Curationism: How Curating Took Over the Art World, and Everything Else. Recently released in Italy, Curationism was a National Post best art book of 2014 and the ICA London Bookshop Best Book of the Year 2015. In 2015, Balzer also won first prize at the AICA International Awards in Art Criticism for his essay “Douglas Coupland Doesn’t Care About You,” which was originally published on Canadian Art’s website.

Debra Rother was previously associate publisher, advertising, responsible for revenue for various consumer magazines at St. Joseph Media over a period of more than 14 years.

Both of the co-publishers will be present at the 21st annual Canadian Art Gala, to be held on September 22 at Andrew Richard Designs in Toronto, and are working together on Canadian Art’s Fall issue focusing on Canadian artists active in the international scene, which hits newsstands from coast to coast on September 15.
