Thunder Bay Art Gallery is a non-profit, public gallery, that exhibits, collects and interprets art with a particular focus on the contemporary artwork of Canadian Aboriginal and Northwestern Ontario artists. The Gallery advances the relationship between artists, their art, and the public, nurturing a life-long appreciation of contemporary visual arts among residents of, and visitors to Thunder Bay.
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is the sole public art gallery in Northwestern Ontario presenting exhibitions of artistic and educational value that enhance the visual arts experience of the people of Northwestern Ontario. As an established gallery in the area; it supports and effects the development of contemporary Canadian artist with a particular focus on (but not limited to) contemporary Aboriginal artists and artists from area.
It is this gallery’s mandate to build and enliven a collection of art focused on the most innovative work by local and contemporary Canadian Aboriginal artist by the use of outreach activities and enhancement programs that build audience, increase reception and expand the understanding of the visual arts.
